Quilt Market in Houston this weekend…and two new lines to debut with FreeSpirit.
Annette Tatum will unveil a “Mod” collection under her House by Annette Tatum line. Mod showcases bold prints and a vibrant color palette. It is fresh and lively, perfect for today’s fashionable consumers. We are dreaming about PJs, pillows and cute skirts.
Annette chose to make her own quilt this time because she wanted a more contemporary style.
Jenean Morrison also launched a new fabric collection, Wild Wood. A grouping of Jenean’s signature patterns intricately designed and offered in both a warm and cool palette. The collection is just perfect for everything from quilting, to clothing to home decor.
Jenean chose to exhibit at the show this year, and won the show’s Creativity Award, a wonderful honor, and reward for all her hard work with the line and preparing the booth. Two other Freespirit designers also won awards, therefore Freespirit designers won 3 our of 9 awards…wahoo, and a shout out to Joyce and team. Check out Jenean’s Wild Wood skirt!
Congrats to both Annette and Jenean.

Steve Cunningham offers an interesting article about Sally Hogshead new book, Fascinate, published by Harper Business. Fundamentally the concept of “Fascinating” consumers with a brand is ideal because fascination like curiosity engages consumers to learn or explore more about a brand. The ideas put forth by Sally to stimulate “Fascination” are mixed and interesting, however I’m left wondering how-long term brand loyalty is created through fascination. One may see a blip of attention through the majority of the ideas mentioned but the real work comes in building brand loyalty and trust over time with consumers.
I’d love to know other peoples thoughts on this topic.

New York New York
This past week was a whirlwind as we traveled to New York to meet up with our wonderful clients, Christina and Kate Strutt of Cabbages & Roses.
We had lots of meetings lined up with potential partners. Each day after the next, manufacturer after manufacturer we listened, we learned and we shared. The timeless beauty, engaging brand philosophy and amazing growth of Cabbages & Roses was well received by all that met with us. We met with some lovely new manufacturers, and reacquainted with others that are truly gems in the industry.
We had some timefor fun too! The first night we met up with Cynthia of Archivia Books, who had graciously hosted a book party at her store earlier in the summer for Christina’s new book, At Home With Country by CICO books.
Another night we tried a new restaurant, The Shop at Andaz Fifth Avenue. Andaz is a new boutique hotel brand by Hyatt, that is based on local design influences, this locations open and airy design was conceived by the fabulous Tony Chi. The food was local produce based and tasted absolutely yummy.

Monica is a very talented designer that we, branding, inc., represent for licensing and merchandising, and overall brand development…however she has become much more to us, let me explain.
When I was first introduced to Monica I wasn’t sure we wanted to add another client, we were busy but I was schooled with the adage of “always take the meeting,” from my studio days. Our first conversation was like two soul friends finding each other for the first time, and our bond has only become stronger over the last few years. We share common goals; we are both driven and share a desire to succeed, yet we truly value our girly friendship and have become a wonderful cheering squad and supporter of each other and of our quest.
Being an agent and branding specialist, I am often labeled (and not in a good way!) before I even enter a room, or open my mouth to speak. However, there are some people (Monica is one of them!) who understand and value the benefit of working with someone who can present opportunities to build a brand and generate income. I’ve spent my entire career strategically building some of the world’s biggest global brands (Harry Potter, Star Trek, Batman) and I apply this experience and knowledge to our client’s daily.
We have an array of wonderful clients, and Monica is a favorite. Her passion for her work, her dedication to her craft and her heartwarming girly persona makes her a joy to work with, talk to and be around. She and I both come from the “School of Positivity” and we always try to see and make the most of all situations, even the challenging ones. I think it’s also important to note, that we have A LOT of fun! We are both working Mums so its important to us that we enjoy what we do if we are going to be away from our precious children.
We chose to highlight Monica because she, on many levels, is a dream client…and that deserves a spotlight!
